Description

From the artwork of Sonia Delaunay “Circles” has us discover a new elaborated language, thanks to her coloured geometrical forms, harmonising with one another, or, on the contrary, in contrast. Robert Delaunay, her husband, says of her brilliant painting “She came from the East to the West, she carries within herself this warmth, this mysteriousness both characteristic and classical, and  without this contact with the West breaking her, on the contrary, she has discovered a new self, finding her constructive expression confronting these two cultures, where, in her work, they are amplified and transformed and her art is transfused into a new kind of art…she possesses colour in its very atavistic state” .

Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979)

Sonia Delaunay, a French painter born in Russia in 1885, devotes her work to abstract art. “Colour is a means of expression as vital as speech”: from her famous “windows” to her intertwining round-shapes, Sonia Delaunay has us discover a new elaborated language, thanks to her coloured geometrical forms, harmonising with one another, or, on the contrary, in contrast.
