Alfons Mucha

Born in Czechoslovakia, Mucha became one of the most famous Art Nouveau artists. Passionate about modern dance, he left for Vienna to work for a leading Viennese theatrical design company. Moving to Paris in 1887 he designed a new advertising poster for a play starring Sarah Bernhardt, and went on to work for her for 6 years. He quickly became well known for his new artistic style, with flowing, lush motifs, as can bee seen with the tracery here, in one of his most popular posters.
