| All the secrets of silk printing : Lyon has been the city of silk since the 16th century. Here l'Atelier de Soierie welcomes visitors and introduces them to the typical skill and "savoir-faire": The silk printing. The technique is called "frame printing" or "A La Lyonnaise". This colouring of the silk squares is the last stage of a long succession of craft procedures. The actual printing technique was developed in France in the seventeenth century. At that time wood carvings were employed. From 1920 zinc boards were introduced and today the "pochoir" technique is used. The printer distributes the colour in the frame and the print will be transferred, via a fine-knit gauze, to the white silk below. The printed scarf will appear in front of your eyes.
