Artiste

Jean-Michel Basquiat Pegasus, 1987

Basquiat began his career as a graffiti artist in New York City. A close friend of Andy Warhol, they were both important figures in the underground movement. His style was violent, colourful and full or character showing influences from Primitive Art, graffiti and anatomical drawings.  The painting is one of his last works as he died a year later.  A large work made up of small drawings and inscriptions playing on the juxtaposition of empty/full, emptiness/fullness.
